Neuromodulators (Botox / Dysport): how long before you see the effect?
Written by Douae Elle · October 13, 2026

You leave your appointment, look in the mirror… and nothing has changed. That's normal. Neuromodulators (Botox / Dysport) don't work instantly: the effect builds over a few days, then peaks around two weeks. Here's what to expect, day by day.
Why it isn't immediate
A neuromodulator acts on the communication between nerve and muscle. It first has to bind to the nerve endings, then gradually block the signal that makes the muscle contract. That takes a few days: the muscle relaxes gradually, and the line it creates softens with it.
The timeline, day by day
- Day 0: small bumps at the injection points, gone within 15 to 30 minutes. Sometimes a small bruise.
- Days 2 to 5: first effects appear. Movement becomes a little weaker.
- Days 7 to 10: the effect is clearly visible. Expression lines soften noticeably.
- Days 10 to 14: full effect. This is the right time to judge the result and, if needed, touch up.
- Months 3 to 4: movement gradually returns. Time to plan the next session.
Area by area
The timings below are guides. They vary from person to person.
- Frown lines (glabella): first effects around 2 to 4 days, full effect around 2 weeks.
- Forehead: first effects around 3 to 5 days, full effect around 2 weeks.
- Crow's feet: first effects around 3 to 5 days, full effect around 2 weeks.
- Lip flip: visible around 5 to 7 days, full effect around 2 weeks.
- Brow lift: effect around 5 to 10 days, full effect around 2 weeks. See our brow lift guide.
- Masseters: less clenching after 1 to 2 weeks; jaw slimming shows more after 4 to 8 weeks. Full details in how long masseter neuromodulators last.
- Underarms (sweating): sweating usually decreases after a few days, at its lowest around 2 weeks.
What changes the timing
- Muscle strength: a very active or larger muscle can take longer to relax. Men often need larger doses.
- Dose: a microdose gives a subtler effect, sometimes slower to notice.
- Product: approved brands can differ slightly in onset speed and spread. The choice is made at consultation.
- Area: small muscles often respond faster than large ones.
- Your history: for a first time, we often dose cautiously, then adjust at follow-up.
First time? What to know
Don't judge the result before two weeks. If one side seems to react faster than the other on day 4, that's common: wait for the full effect. And if you have an important event, book at least two weeks before, to enjoy the full effect and leave time for a touch-up if needed.
For the best result
- Stay upright for about 4 hours after the injection.
- Avoid intense exercise, sauna and spa for 24 hours.
- Don't massage the treated areas the same day.
- Postpone facials and skin treatments by a few days.

FAQ
Can I see results the same day?
No. First effects usually appear after 2 to 5 days, and the full effect around two weeks.
How long does the effect last?
Usually 3 to 4 months for facial areas, often longer for masseters. It varies by person, dose and area.
Why does it wear off faster for some people?
A fast metabolism, very strong muscles, intense physical activity or a smaller dose can shorten the duration.
When can I have another session?
We usually wait until the effect starts to fade, about 3 to 4 months. A touch-up is done around two weeks.
Nothing changed after two weeks. What should I do?
Come back and see us. We'll assess the result and adjust if needed.
