Prom skin prep: how to get ready without injectables

Prom is a night you plan for months: the dress or suit, the hair, the photos. Your skin needs planning too, just not the night before. Here's how to do it without injectables, with gentle treatments and a realistic timeline.

This article is only about skin care: peels, microneedling, medical facials. For a first prom, the goal isn't to change a face. It's clear, rested, glowing skin in the photos.

The ideal timeline

  • 8 weeks before: consultation. We look at your skin (acne, marks, dullness, pores) and build a plan that ends at least one week before prom.
  • 6 to 8 weeks before: start a series of peels or microneedling, if your skin needs it.
  • 4 weeks before: second session. It's also the right time to settle your routine at home.
  • 2 weeks before: last "active" session (peel or microneedling). After that, nothing new.
  • Prom week: a gentle facial if needed, hydration, sunscreen. No new products, no picking at home.
  • The night before: sleep, water, and leave your skin alone.

Treatments that make a real difference

Chemical peel. It removes damaged surface layers for a more even tone and smoother texture. The purifying peel helps acne-prone skin; the brightening peel targets dullness and marks. Depending on the peel, skin can flake lightly for a few days, which is why we keep at least two weeks between the last session and prom. See our chemical peels page.

Each peel is chosen for the skin type.

Microneedling. Tiny controlled channels stimulate collagen and help smooth texture, pores and small acne marks. A series of sessions a few weeks apart works best, so it pays to start early. Redness usually fades within a few days. More on our microneedling page.

Medical facial. Deep cleansing, targeted treatment and hydration, tailored to your skin on the day. It's the safest treatment as the event gets closer, and a great first step if you've never had a clinic treatment. See our medical facials.

What to avoid before prom

  • A new treatment in the last 7 days. Even a gentle treatment can cause a reaction in skin that isn't used to it.
  • Extractions at home and picking. A red mark on the big day usually starts there.
  • New active products (retinol, strong acids) the week before.
  • Tanning and sunburn. Irritated skin reacts badly to treatments and makeup. Sunscreen every day.

What if a pimple shows up the night before?

It happens. Rule one: don't touch it. A little cold, a gentle product and the right concealer do better than a last-minute extraction. If acne keeps coming back, our guide to acne treatments in Montreal explains how to treat it ahead of time.

For grads under 18

Every request is assessed at consultation, and we recommend a parent or guardian come to the first appointment. We take the time to explain each treatment, its effects and its recovery. If a treatment isn't right, we'll say so, as we explain in why we don't always say yes.

FAQ

How far ahead of prom should we start?

Ideally 6 to 8 weeks before, to fit in a short series of sessions and let the skin recover.

Can I get a peel the week of prom?

We don't recommend it. Keep at least two weeks between your last peel and the event.

Does microneedling leave marks?

Usually some redness for a few days. That's why the last session is at least two weeks before.

There are only two weeks left. What can I do?

A medical facial and a good routine at home. Keep the more active treatments for after prom.
