Acne treatments in Montreal: active breakouts, marks and scars
Written by Douae Elle · October 13, 2026

Acne isn't just for teenagers. It can show up at 25, 35 or 45, after a pregnancy, a change in birth control or a stressful period. And even once breakouts are gone, marks and scars sometimes stay. The good news: each stage has its solution. You just have to choose the right treatment at the right time.
Three problems, three approaches
1. Active acne (breakouts)
Blackheads, whiteheads, red bumps and sometimes cysts. Here, the goal is to calm inflammation and decongest the skin.
2. Marks (spots)
Red, pink or brown spots left after a breakout. They aren't scars: they fade with time, but we can speed things up.
3. Scars
Small dips in the skin (icepick, rolling, boxcar) left by deeper acne. They require stimulating collagen to remodel the skin.
For active acne
- Purifying peel: it exfoliates, decongests pores and helps reduce breakouts. A series of sessions works best. See our chemical peels.
- Medical facial: deep cleansing and targeted treatment, tailored to your skin on the day. See our medical facials.
- The right routine: gentle cleanser, non-comedogenic moisturizer, sunscreen. We'll help you simplify.
When acne is moderate to severe, painful, cystic or leaving scars, medical treatment may be needed. Our medical consultation with a physician lets you discuss it. Your family physician or a dermatologist can also help.
For marks
- Brightening peel: it evens out tone and helps fade spots.
- Daily sunscreen: the sun darkens marks and makes them last longer.
- Patience: some marks take a few months to fade.
For scars

- Microneedling: it creates micro-channels that stimulate collagen and smooth texture. Ideal for mild to moderate scars, in a series.
- Radiofrequency microneedling (Morpheus8): it adds deep heat energy to remodel more pronounced scars. Offered at our Boisbriand clinic.
Important: we don't microneedle over active, inflamed acne. We calm the acne first, then treat the scars.
In what order?
1. Calm active acne: routine, purifying peels, medical advice if needed.
2. Fade marks: brightening peels and sun protection.
3. Treat scars: microneedling or radiofrequency microneedling, once the skin is stable.

FAQ
Do peels help with acne?
Yes, the purifying peel helps decongest pores and reduce breakouts, especially in a series. It doesn't replace medical treatment for severe acne.
Can scars be treated during a breakout?
No. We calm active acne first, then treat the scars.
How many sessions for acne scars?
Usually a series of several sessions a few weeks apart. The number depends on how deep the scars are.
My 16-year-old daughter has acne. Can she be treated?
Every request is assessed at consultation, ideally with a parent present. As a first step, gentle treatments and a good routine often make a big difference.
