Lip flip and gummy smile: a better smile in a few units
Written by Douae Elle · September 30, 2026

Two small treatments, two different concerns, one idea: gently relax one specific muscle around the mouth to change how your smile looks. No filler, no added volume: just a few units of neuromodulator.
The lip flip
Does your upper lip look thin, or "roll in" when you smile? Often it's not a lack of volume, but a muscle (the orbicularis oris) pulling the lip inward.
By injecting a few units along the border of the upper lip, we gently relax that muscle. The lip rolls slightly outward: more of it shows, especially when you smile, without adding volume.
The gummy smile
When you smile, does a lot of gum show above your top teeth? It's often a muscle lifting the lip too high. A few units injected on each side of the nose soften that movement: the lip lifts a little less and the smile looks more balanced.
What to expect
- Appointment: about 10 to 15 minutes.
- Result: visible after a few days, complete around two weeks.
- How long it lasts: about 2 to 3 months. A bit shorter than the forehead, because the mouth is always moving.
- First few days: drinking through a straw, whistling or saying certain sounds may feel a little different. It's temporary and fades quickly.
- Downtime: none. You can go right back to work.
Lip flip or filler?
- Lip flip: to show more lip without adding volume. Subtle and temporary.
- Filler: to add volume, define the border or correct asymmetry. See our guide ½ syringe or 1 syringe.
They pair well: the lip flip shows the lip, the filler gives it volume.
